Hearts Wide Open

I was thinking today how important it is that we keep our hearts open and that we find ways to give and love, especially with our country in such a vulnerable place. When I read stories in the news of people deciding to end their lives (as well as their children’s) I think of how everyday we must be a light in this darkness.

We never can know what joy we bring someone else and how we can change his or her day with a simple gesture like a smile or a hug. Taking time to reach out or talk to someone can make a day.

I want to stay as optimistic as I can and continue to do things from my heart (for others and myself). I want to be joyful and thankful for each person I see….and see the miracles in the small things. A wise pastor once said, and I am paraphrasing, that when we are the most down is the time to reach out and give out the most. He said that giving forces us to come outside of our own self. Our soul will be joyful when it gives.

My life is definitely affected by this financial crisis, but it is nothing compared to the people who live in the small town in Ohio where DSL was centrally located. The town must be wiped out. I think of them now and many others who have lost their jobs and are hurting so much inside and I think…what can I do, how can I help?

I don’t have an answer for that yet– but I do know that somehow, someway I want to reach out to them. In the mean time I am going to keep my heart wide open and look for ways to love around me.
